Hidden homeless

My oh lives in a shipping container in a yard where he works.  He is desparately trying to get van insurance in his name.  He has always been a named driver on a policy or on an anyone over 25 policy... He has paid the premiums  but someeone else has put it in their name.   We have tried Adrian flux, who won't touch him as he has no no claims,  and vanquotedirect /Bedford insurance who have cancelled his policy as they don't like his address, but were happy to take £450 up front and are taking their time refunding it...  Can anyone recommend a Co who will insure travellers/showmen and People without conventional living arrangements?  Thanks

Oh, that's awful. How can anyone live in a container? Do his bosses know? Can't he be found somewhere to live? I'm sorry I'm just really concerned about your OH living in such a terrible situation. Why does he need a van when he doesn't have a home? I'm not being judgemental, I'm just finding it all very worrying indeed and think your OH should find somewhere proper to live and then think about a van.

For reasons beyond my understanding there are insurers who will deal with "showmen". Towergate is one such I believe, although I have no relationship with them so I can't be sure.

We don't have all the details, but it may not be as bad as it initially seems.  Shipping containers can be converted into accommodation and it's possible that is the situation here.  If not, and it is just an unmodified shipping container, the accommodation is illegal and would explain why insurance is not being offered.

I can't imagine that a motor insurer would investigate the legality or otherwise of someone's living arrangements before deciding whether to offer motor insurance.
More likely a combination of the address not appearing on the database they use and the applicant not being on the electoral register at that address.
