Find this the most user unfriendly bank and support I've ever come across. Ask a question and get an answer to a question I didn't ask. Can anyone tell me how to close my account? And while I'm here I get told to go to tab, options for example, but I don't see tabs on my app. Asked to sign in I put in my VPN number and when I do am told I'm already signed in then an intro page nothing else.

I had a similar experience, asked a question during working hours on a week day, and only to receive a semi off-topic template answer the next day, then I replied to that and got another answer on the 3rd day. I decided to not use them after that. It's 2021, who waits days for a fintech company's customer service to answer a question?

My experience is different. Generally got good support from Chip and even got an answer on Good Friday. Wasn't expecting that :)

    This is not investment advice.
Your money may go "down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... I got all tricked up and came up to this thing, lookin' so fire hot, a twenty out of ten..."

I have also Closed my account with CHIP, just got uneasy with their Auto Debiting access to my main bank account, which has a fair amount in it.
ALSO, whilst the banks they farm your money out to are FSCS covered, as I understand it, and I am happy to be corrected,
CHIP THEMSELVES ARE NOT FSCS COVERED.
To be fair they do mention this, it's when your funds are in CHIP's "e-Wallet" or something when You Are Not FSCS Covered.
Don't know about anyone else, but with my luck I'd have a humungous amount in my e-Wallet when CHIP may have, errrr, "difficulties", and I'd lose the lot.

Closed my account on Friday past. I really hadn't used Chip.... With all the things going on just now I never even got round to setting up my bank account for autosave etc.

Purely by chance I looked at Chip early last week to find they had taken money from my bank on the 1st and 4th April. Now this is the first time they had taken anything since I opened the account approx 6 months ago. They took it simply using my bank card details, they do not have open banking access to the account as I had not set that up. Having taken the two amounts from my account it resulted in my account being overdrawn.

I messaged them immediately and they replied the next day but completely ignored my question as to how they took money or why they took it. They simply said I had not set up open banking and they had resorted to using my card to transfer the money. I responded by asking how they had managed to calculate the amounts they had taken but their reply yet again avoided my question.

Well they ain't getting anymore now as I closed the account. No apology of any kind regarding my account being overdrawn. Pretty poor show and hope my story will help others avoid this bunch of sharks.

I'm on the ChipLite plan so autosave isn't an issue for me but on the ChipAI plan the app calculates autosaves based on your settings if you don't have Open Banking linked, just a debit card. If you put your autosave level down to 1 it only takes minimal amounts. You do however need to link a bank account fully to utilise the overdraft saving function which prevents the app taking your current account overdrawn.
