Outfox the Market tariff renewal

I am currently on Outfox the Market Fix'd 20 8.0 tariff which is due to finish on 15th April 2021.

I have now received an email from OTM with a link to a page where I can choose my next tariff from a number of options - if I don't choose a new tariff by the 14th of April then I will be moved to their standard variable tariff on the 15th.

Before I go ahead and choose a new tariff, my question to anyone who has been with Outfox the Market for more than one year - and has presumably had a similar email - when you select the new tariff does it start straight away or does it switch when your existing tariff expires?

The reason I ask this is because my existing tariff is at an excellent rate when compared with any of the new tariffs and I would prefer to keep it going right up to the last moment if possible - which is just a few days unfortunately!

My only other option would be to change supplier but having done a comparison using the Citizens Advice comparison site the only cheaper option for my energy usage is Orbit Energy Spring Vari-Save Extra - but my annual cost would only be £13 cheaper than Outfox the Market Spring 21 Variable so probably not really worth the bother of switching suppliers.

As the fixed rate tariffs are currently rather more expensive than the variable option, I think I would rather choose a variable tariff for the time being and probably switch to a fixed tariff at a later date - like when they announce a price increase!

Opinions, anyone?

As a general rule swops changing tariffs within suppliers are the same day.  Your gamble is -what will be on offer on April 14th either with OFM or anyone else.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Yes, this is what I suspected. Anyway, I am willing to take the risk and make my choice on the 14th.

I had my tariff renewal from them this weekend. Despite being in credit and using the same sort of amount of electricity/ gas as last year (when they offered me a lower monthly payment which I refused), the options are £13pm more on a variable or £24pm on a fixed!! Disappointed as i'm not sure prices have risen that much in 12 months.
