You're probably right that it's a blanket policy, perhaps they are not too bothered if you cancel as they will be able to re-let the property. There is huge demand right now and in my area properties are being rebooked within 24 hours.
It's up to you, but given you say "we desperately want to go" I think I'd go for the 5 nights even if they won't reduce the price. Sounds like it will be your last holiday before a baby arrives so quite special. If you can, arrive early to make the most of the Monday.
If only the government understood self catering accommodation...they would have had it reopening on a Friday or Saturday instead of a Monday. Would have saved lots of work for agencies and owners, and lots of stress for guests.
