I used this card for many years - know a local shop has informed me if I use it to pay for goods they will now charge me 30 pence for using the card- when I questioned this they said Barclays charged them a fee.

Did you clarify if it is for ALL debit cards or is it just for your Barclays Debit Card?
The 'Barclays' they mentioned could refer to their debit/card reader as opposed to your debit card.0 -
My local shop has charged 50p for using Debit card on transactions under £10 for years - needless to say I only use cash there for bread/milk/paper etc.0

Thanks for replys - I would ring Barclays Bank to get an answer to this query
but it is an 0845 number for whitch you can be held on the phone for 0ver 2
hours, I will try too put this ? in writing to Barclays - surely this is a ploy by this firm C--TC----s to rake money in from people topping up phone, electic\gas\water cards etc I refuse to pay it - the person behind the counter replied " well the machine over there will charge you £1.50 for your money in cash " this is rank !! Any shops using this scam should be named and shamed

PS my transactions to this C--tc-tt-ers store is approx £30.00 per day +
so it is their loss it is not the 30 pence fee it is not right surely ?0 -
I Have Tried On The 0845 Number To Ask If This Retailer Cost----cutt=rs = Can Charge 30 Pence Per Transaction To Use A Barclaysplatinum Debit Card - Is This Legal - Anyone From Barclays Bank Please Reply - If This Is The Case That This Retailer Can Charge Barclays Bank For Customerers To Use Their Card - Otherwise We Will All Go Back To Carring Cash - Imaginge You Use Your Debit Card = 40 Times A Week X 30 Pence - The Amount Is Not The Problem - It Is The Sheer Cheek ----
Shall We All Carry Cash ?0 -
It's disgusting when retailers charge you for using your card or put a minimum amount up and say "card payments only accepted for transactions over £10". They do get charged retailer fees for taking the cards but they are called retailer fees for a reason, if we were meant to pay them then they would be charged to us.0
-
Are talking about being charged for credit card payments or debit card payments or both?
I have just cancelled my Barclaycard Platinum cc, there are better ones to have anyway.0 -
Both - although in this instance the OP refers to a Platinum Debit card.0

Do you not realise that retailers charge us for using cards in shops wether we use cards or cash? In all prices that we pay the retailer ads a percentage to the price of goods to cover their card payment fees. The larger retailers such as Tesco no doubt get charged a lower fee, as they process many transactions a day. Either way, wether the retailer is direct about charging a fee or not, we still pay for it.0
