Refund for holiday cottage complications.

This may actually not be an issue if Sykes Cottages act on the email I sent them today but I want to be prepared in case they don't. My wife and I had two weeks on Skye booked and paid for for April last year but obviously couldn't go so carried it over to this year, but still unable to go because we were due there on the 10th and travel not allowed until the 12th (great timing). So about eight weeks ago I was offered, and accepted, the option of a refund which they said could take nine weeks. Today I got an email telling me the refund was being processed and I could expect the money in 3/5 days, all good under normal circumstances but the problem is that they've said that if the holiday was paid for from different credit/debit cards each card would be refunded the amount it had contributed, and we did indeed pay in about ten installments from several different cards. Still wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't for the fact that my wife died last August and much of it was paid on her credit cards, and obviously those accounts are now shut down. I've emailed them explaining and giving my current account details so cautiously hopeful there will be no problem, I just wonder what will happen if they try to refund to closed accounts, may be worrying needlessly but I am a bit concerned, it's £1200 so not a small sum.

Very sorry for your loss. Don’t worry - any monies credited to closed accounts will be put in a ‘holding account’ and then you can have it paid by cheque or bank transfer by the credit card company. In your case this would be paid to the estate and it can then be dealt with as needed. Some companies won’t refund to any other card than the one used to pay - the system simply doesn’t allow it to happen (but as above you’ll get the money back anyway).1

This will need to be claimed by the estate in any event. If the booking was in her name it will be direct by Sykes.
If booked in your name, standard terms will apply, however there is no harm in asking.💙💛 💔1 -
Thanks for the quick response guys, I actually got this from Sykes juat a few minutes ago so seems I was getting in a panic over nothing."Regrettably, refunds can only be made to the original cards which were used to purchase the holiday, in order to comply with money laundering legislation. Should any refunds be unsuccessful as a direct result of one of the cards no longer being in use, please be assured we will contact you to request up-to-date bank details from you.I hope this is helpful and that you receive your refund promptly. Please do not hesitate to get back in touch if you require assistance or advice in the meantime".“Procrastination is my middle name....well it would be if I could be ar**d to contact Deed Poll."1
