New Hoover/Vacuum Cleaner

I always call them a hoover although I know it's not and that it's a brand name.
We have a DC07 that is used in a second property so it doesn't see heavy use. It's now gone from been rubbish to utter rubbish and is time to replace.
The hoover does have a dog to deal with. So what's out there that is good and value for money?

Upright or cylinder, corded or cordless?

Cordless is fine for quick jobs or keeping on top of a room at a time but for a deep clean of the whole house I much prefer corded. For upright I'd recommend one of the Shark Duoclean models, look around for when they're on sale (which is quite often), for a cylinder then either Miele, Sebo or Henry (my preference is Sebo).

The biggest problem with any Dyson being 'rubbish' or 'useless' or other variations is not properly cleaning the appliance.
Have you located ALL the filters & cleaned them all PROPERLY ??

Same here.  For £100 I have no complaints.

We had a pet friendly Dyson and it just constantly clogged with hair (no matter how often you clean the filters etc).

One day I got fed up and bought a £90 Henry - best hoover I’ve ever had.  Always powerful, no messing on cleaning or unblocking, just a new bag once every blue moon.

I have had a couple of Dyson 04/07 and want to keep them. I once viewed a review about vacuums and people prefered the one that was the easiest to use, not the one that picked up the most dirt. My 07 is great with carpet dog hair, I have a separate cylinder vacuum for the car and occasional cleaning.

The DC07  Should have really good suction.

    might just need an overhaul.

Check the clutch and bearings of the brush head so the head is not turning properly
hair can make a right mess of the brush head so will need taking of fairly regularly to clear any hair.

Check all the ducting for cracks letting air in

    Filters

One issue DC07 has have is when the waist container is out the body is not very sturdy and can crack.

Best vacuum cleaners  and best value for money are - Sebo, Miele, Henry - in that order. After that anything else as it's more how lucky you are than how good they are. Dyson have the best marketing, sadly quality and longevity of their appliances have gone down quite a lot in last 10 - 15 years.

We have a DC04 upstairs, a DC40 downstairs and a Miele something that lives in the garage because it's useless compared to the Dysons. The DC04 is over 20 years old and still my favourite.
Clean or replace the filters and check for blockages.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
