Neff H5972 Microwave/oven combi not heating after running it with nothing in it

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me work out the best way forward, as I stupidly ran our microwave with nothing in it (there might have been a bit of a burning smell) and now it runs for 23 seconds, has a bit of a metallic rattly / scraping noise while its running and then stops but doesn't heat at all. The oven still seems to work, but we don't ever use that. From my own research, the magnetron is likely to need replacing (£120 from Neff), but have also seen reference to the diode, inverter board, high voltage capacitor / transformer, which on top of the £99 labour charge that Neff want, could mount up very quickly and they won't let me speak to an engineer to try and gauge the likely cost. Much as I don't want to buy a standalone microwave for space reasons, I don't know if trying to get this repaired is a waste of time or not? It is 14 years old and the only problem up until now has been door springs! Have been trying to find a microwave repairer to get advice from, based on the above description, but easier said than done as most people just do ovens. Maybe we would save a callout charge if we could take it to someone, but there will still be a labour charge. SO annoyed with myself. Any advice would be much appreciated

At 14 years old I wouldn't spend money repairing it. You could easily spend over £200 and have it fail for something else the next day.

You could try to find a second hand model. This one is on eBay but is collection only from Arundel in West Sussex. There are similar combo ovens available.

How much are similar models new? £500 to £800?

Over 14 years that is 10p to 16p per day.

A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".
