I agree with the comments above, having gone through a pretty similar experience a few years ago. "The car failed to give way and pulled out from a side road, hitting me in the leg and sending me flying off the bike" seems the most accurate description. Otherwise it sounds like you weren't looking and rode into a parked car, which I suspect would have a very different outcome!
As for the insurance aspect of it, either use your existing cover (possibly with a slightly more expensive premium come renewal time) or claim directly from the other driver's third party insurance. No need to get a claims company mixed up into this since it seems pretty clear cut who is at fault IMO.

Probably best with your home insurer, however I'm a member of British Cycling, who provide legal cover for members. They were extremely good when I was hit by a car.
I've seen claims on cycling forums that joining BC after the event is possible.
It might be worth phoning them to discuss any options if you prefer to go the specialist route.1 -
Thanks, I appreciate your comment but have now contacted my household insurance. I have to wait a few days for them to get back to me while they consider possible outcome.Nebulous2 said:Probably best with your home insurer, however I'm a member of British Cycling, who provide legal cover for members.
