Hi
Can anyone tell me the best way to protect my home, what I mean is if we have to go into care .
At the moment my wife and I live in our home which is paid for ,we are worried about if we ever have
to go into care and made to sell our home .
we have 2 daughters who have there own home .
is there some way we can put our house into there names to avoid selling our house?
what is the best way to do this and how do you go about it ?
also what kind Of costs would be involved,
or has anyone got any information of the best thing to do .
thanks for any help
Tony

Really, so who do you think should pay for any future care home needs you may have!23

I don't think putting your house into the names of others will work. Councils are wise to this sort of chicanery!11

Go and visit some care homes, visit those where all the residents are private payers and visit those where they are funded and decide which one you would prefer your wife or yourself to spend your final years.22

This would be deliberately depriving yourself of assets to avoid paying care home fees & instead wanting the tax payers of this country to foot the bill. Local authorities are used to people trying to do a stunt like this.
If only one of you were to die, the other would not have to sell or leave the home to pay for care home costs. It would only need to be sold when both parties have died, so it means both husband & wife will have a secure home over the heads for the whole of their lives. Your daughters already have a home each & you'd think they would want you to go into a nice care home you need to pay towards should the time ever come, rather than be put in one not so nice chosen & paid for by the local authority. I know what my choice would be.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.16 -

No, if you need care you have to pay for it if you have the resources. If you give away your money to evade paying for care, it is seen as deprivation of assets.
Dont you want some choice over your care?10 -
Oh deary me.... not another one...17

I never understand why people think like this. My Dads in a nursing home self funded and I’m so glad he is. Honestly some of the horrible places we visited when picking a suitable place I’m so glad we got to choose. My parents own their home outright and have substantial savings but honestly my parents care in their final years is so much more important than anything I could buy with an inheritance.23

If your are that desperate to avoid paying for your own care and want your daughters to have all you assets why not move in with one of them and let them care for you instead of trying to rip off the state...11

Do you mean protect your home from being sold if one of you has to go into care or protect it to leave it to your daughters? If it's the former then as a previous poster explained it won't be sold while the other party is still living there (this is something I've looked into as I don't want either of us to be made homeless if the other needs care). If it's the latter then if I was your daughter I wouldn't be happy, I'd want my parents to have the best care possible.
