This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about
everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great,
inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old
Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already.
Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check
the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style
natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Good morning, it's fine here, but there's a light covering of snow, it won't last long, I can tell.We had no plans for today but DD asked us if we would help them - they are preparing to have an extension built, and her psrtner has already started pulling the shed and things down in the garden, so DH can help by taking stuff to the tip, so Dd and I can do whatever, I don't know really., general tidying outside. Her Dp is going to fence part of the garden off to make it safe for the children as well.I had my ears micro vauumed last night, I'd had a problem with wax - using 2 hearing aids doesn't help, so it's a problem that crops up every now and again. Of course the Drs isn't doing wax extraction and no one knows when or if they'll start again. The deafness and increased tinnitus was driving me mad.Anyway to cut a long story short I was given the contact details of a private audiologist who gave me an appt for 7pm last night, he said he is so busy because Drs are not doing it, that he's working weekends! It was done in minutes, I was so relieved to get it done.It was worth every penny and it was far better than syringing.Snoozer, it's frightening that you had to explain immunotherapy to the 111 operator, I know they aren't doctors, but still.... Hope Steve will be ok anyway.Dp1, it sounds as if your DD's landlord is trying it on, cheeky devil, there would be dust if the place had been empty for weeks!Nanny. glad to "see" you again, hope all is well with you.Thinking of Gers and her Mum and others who are poorly and/or struggling with life.16

Morning folks and thanks SCARLET for the new thread. A glorious start here with blue sky and sunshine and a thick frost! Brr I bet it's cold out there and not forecast to get above 5 deg.
I had a lovely day at DD's yesterday with far too much eating done and too much Prosecco quaffed. DD opened all her presents from family and friends after our 11.00 brunch, it was almost like Christmas she got so many nice gifts. We played lots of silly games throughout the day creating much laughter. It was a really lovely day. I finally left, after 10 hours there, at 9.00 pm! Sparkle was waiting behind the door meowing furiously when I went in. She's not used to being left for so long.
I want to strip the bed shortly and get all the bedding in to wash. I don't think it will dry outside so will be festooned round the back bedroom to dry. There is also some long neglected ironing in the basket so that may get done too. I haven't given a thought to today's meals so must brave the cold garage and rummage in the freezer to see what appeals. After eating almost my entire body weight in chocolate since Thursday I must have a few days of healthy eating to compensate.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for our poorlies and sad. Take care and keep warm xx

Morning all. Thanks for starting us off Scarlet, that micro vacuuming sounds good.Yesterday I spent most of the day emptying out more packets and bottles of old stuff from another shelf of the pantry of doom. This time is was much more pleasant, dried fruits (now very very dried), sachets of baking powder and gelatine, bottles and bottles of different essences and colourings, all very fragrant. The worst ones were two bottles of ancient caramel sauce from Lakeland, there was a very hard layer at the bottom of each which I had to attack with boiling water and a chopstick.
The bottle of Camp coffee was tricky too. An intriguing item was a a large cone of sugar, I have no idea why it was in that shape. Anyway, there's three more bags of food waste to go out today plus more bottles. A job well done, so far. There's two more shelves plus the floor to clear.
EDIT -seems that originally sugar was formed in cones and hence the need to have sugar nippers. https://blog.britishmuseum.org/the-story-of-sugar-in-5-objects/ The one DM had must have been a souvenir of some sort and given to her as a gift.DM spent all day in bed again though she managed a shower in the evening. It's a very slow process and I have to sit nearby as she washes. It really exhausted her but she's clean again.Today is the most exciting day of the year so far - I have a hair cut appointment for 4.00p.m.I can hardly wait! My last hair cut was on 18 September last year, I had an appointment for 19 November which never happened. I'll be so relieved.
My thoughts are with all our poorlies, sore hands, sore shoulders or just plain sore. Happy Monday to all.

Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cold with a slight frost to start the day and some snow but didn't settle.
Menfolk either chilling or still in bed.
Lunch yesterday was lovely roast beef, plenty of LO meat so that will make tomorrow nights' dinner braised in gravy with yorkshires, mash and some veg. Today we'll be having breaded chicken portions, chips and beans for the menfolk, I'll have fishcakes and salad.
Nothing much to do today so another chilled day.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
Thanks for the thread Scarlet and hugs to all those in .
No exciting plans here, yesterday I scrubbed the kitchen doors, today I'm reorganizing the food cupboard.
Have a good day everyone..
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.12 -
Morning All
Thanks for the start Scarlet, glad you have had your ears done, sounds amazing!
Happy haircut day Gers, I've yet to phone for an appointment, must do that today.
Sounds like a fun day TA, glad you enjoyed it.
Very naughty of the landlord dp1.
My lunch yesterday at DD's was really good, some sort of haggis and mushroom pie with veggies and roast pots (all vegan), their kitchen obviously works! The little one enjoyed hers too, she had gravy and kept saying 'dip, dip, dip' as she coated her veg in gravy!
Vaccination day for me today, my neighbour is going at the same time so we shall walk down together, feels like a big occasion! The sun is shining so I'm taking that as a good sign although its really cold, not a cloud in the sky so let's hope for a decent day.
Hugs to anyone in need, take care. XX

Morning all, grey and cold and windy here. Yesterday I did not a lot despite thinking some about cutting the grass, it didn't happen. It might happen today..I do have to go in the garage for something, which I can't remember quite yet, which means I can chop some kindling or attempt to anyway for a potential fire for tonight if the temperature stays as it is. I have a packet of gifted self collected seeds [ mix of everything] to throw in the front garden and see what germinates or doesn't. My mind is all on the garden at the moment, it's that time of year. Difficult for me to motivate myself to do anything though, I just like thinking about obviously. Although I suppose I could seed stash sort to try to be a bit better orgaised this year.Oh spent yesterday afternoon with a friend in their garden and I did nothing, although I did have a two hour nap on the sofa. I'd made stew the night before so we had that yesterday as well. Today, don't know. I have to venture out for sugar and coffee at some point but I'm talking myself out of that too.Glad you can hear again Scarlet. Well done Gers, it's not easy sustaining the declutter. Hope your mum has a tolerable day today. Nanny, good job! dp1, hope they do find out what's wrong with her asap. Comforting bowls of soup for the injured, hope you all overcome as they used to say in the seventies. Enjoy your day hopefully with small [ or large!] indulgencesNon me fac calcitrare tuum culi13

Morning
Gorgeous blue sky today but really cold. Hands are like 2 blocks of ice even with my gloves on. Looking forward to some heat in the sun sometime soon.
Scarlet mum had that treatment too from a private practitioner last year who even came to her house all for £70. It was quick and very effective but does make you wonder if the GPs are pushing it out to private which is fine if you can afford it but i know how distressing it was for her to be deaf.
Gers Enjoy your haircut. Its been over a year for me and I dont ever remember it been so long
Nan Hope Mr F's appointment goes ok
Camelot Haggis and mushroom pie sounds yum
Yesterdays pork roast was scrumptious and the pork was bigger than I thought so same again today and a couple of freezer portions probably. For once the crackling was spot on, something I never seemed to right before.
Today is washing day and a kitchen tidy its like a bombs hit it. Other than that I think Ill watch Sense and Sensibility (again) this afternoon ...standard bank holiday viewing and snaffle some more chocolate.
Have a good day all13 -
Morning everyone
White with frost here too - meant to feel like -7!
TA - sounds like you had a lovely day yesterday
It's my mum's birthday today - she's 80- so I'll be going down this morning. She wants no mention of the fact that she's now 80 as it sounds very old!
Other than that, I'm not sure, will maybes see DD and little one later.
I still feel very tired and achy after my jab last week, especially in the mornings - I think I'll message my GP tomorrow just to ask if it's normal. I haven't heard of anyone else having such a long reaction. I did a Covid test this morning , just in case, it was negative.
Well I'd better move. Hope everyone has a good day12 -
Morning, hugs if you need one.......
We have no snaw as yet, but apparently Melton has some, email from DD2 who lives there. Its certainly cold enough, such a change from yesterdays sun, although it was still very cold.
It seems to be the fashion for cleaning out the pantry, mine is 2 cupboards in the kitchen and an emergency shelf in the cupboard in the back bedroom. I need to tackle the cupboard under the sink, there seems to be an awful lot in. I no longer use cleaning products, my cleaner brings her own. I just have a couple of spray bottles one of vinegar for glass and the other a mixture for general cleaning, I am sure there is a load I can get rid of.
Chicken left from yesterday, might do sandwiches with it for lunch. I also need to put a loaf on and find enough energy to make a lemon drizzle cake. The scones will be finished today.
I need an hour on my machine this morning to start machine quilting Niblets quilt. I am planning a visit to Leicester at the end of the month and want to take the finished quilt with me.
Supper tonight is frittata with a jacket spud, celery and tomato salad. The last of the raspberries in jelly for dessert.
