Collection in person and "managed payments"

Apologies if this has been asked before, but a quick question:
I've just been moved to "Ebay managed payments" and have sold a collection in person item.
My listing clearly said that cash on collection was the only valid payment method but, as always used to happen with Paypal, the buyer has ignored that and paid online.
Is accepting payment in this way still as risky as it was pre-"Ebay managed payments"?

No, this seems to be one of the benefits of managed payments. You appear to be covered if you scan the QR code that ebay supply when item is collected. I think it might be covered in the long managed payment thread.

Thanks - I was short of time so I just refunded the buyer and told them to pay by cash on collection (because that was clearly stated in the listing). Whether I get charged a fee for that or not I don't know, but I'll find out in the next couple of days!
And I didn't realise that QR codes now featured in the system - thanks, I'll take a look through the long thread later.

You will have paid full ebay FVfs regardless and cannot insist now that buyer pays cash, buyer can also report you to ebay for non performance and can leave a negative.

He was fine about it, and was apologetic at having ignored what it said in the listing. I had no intention to avoid paying FVFs.
Ebay is one of those places (in my experience) where it mostly works out fine, provided you are selling stuff that has relatively low value - both buyers and sellers tend to be reasonable. I'm sure if I were selling a brand new iPhone it would be different!

In fairness the buyer had no need to apologise, you were not allowed to refuse paypal so you overlooked the requirement to always accept paypal, just as buyer overlooked your wording.

In my opinion, my terms (stated in the listing) can sit Ok alongside whatever Ebay says the rules are. For years I have used the wording "Paypal is accepted unless the item is collected in person, in which case cash on collection is the only valid method of payment", and as far as I'm aware that doesn't explicitly break any Ebay rules.
If he didn't want to abide by my terms (as stated in the listing), he should not have bought the item. If he gives me bad feedback (despite being quite cheerful and apologetic when collecting), that's Ok with me.

Yes, but your wording does not stop the buyer paying with Paypal and insisting on doing so if they wish.
I'm not sure what is possible in a situation like this - could a buyer pay again by Paypal? If so there could be a series of payments, refunds and fees accumulating.

I'm on managed payments and have had buyers pay online for collection items. They show the code on their phone at the door, you scan it into the ebay app on your phone and it instantly shows as collected. As far as I can recall it's only an issue if you're not on managed payments but someone may know different on that.

The QR code only works for ebay managed payments, for anyone still just using PayPal it does not prevent a PayPal claim.

Similar to how the increased use of carrier tracking has driven scammers to claim SNADs instead of INRs, this new QR code verification for collections will inevitably go the same way so cash is still king.
