I'm looking to get a picket fence installed in my front garden, I've contacted a local company for a quote. In total the fence would be 43 feet long, and 3-4 feet high.
The company has given me a quote of £950, which seems a lot to me for a pretty small garden. Is the quote fair?

Check out your local timber yard that supplies fencing as prices change from area to area. By me a 4ft H 6ft L picket fence is £24 so you need 7approx = £170. 8 X posts & postcrete about £100. So materials wise you are looking at about £270/£300 the rest is labour charge. Did they say how long it would take or is there old fencing / shrubs need removing as this allways costs more. As a guide I work as a gardener / handyman & I fitted a 3ft high picket fence 6 panels long in less than a day (1 man). Hope this helps

A fence like this can simply be hammered into the ground or the posts can be set into concrete. The posts can be made out of a variety of materials. It's possible to spend significantly different amounts on fences that will basically look the same on the day that you pay. Personally I would be happy to pay a little extra to have posts that won't rot set into concrete.0
