yes his mental health issues are crippling and I know he has council tax exemption, he pays a reduced rate.

Are the solicitors charging any fees for keeping the "account" open?

Have they said how long the money can stay in limbo?

Presuming he is in England then he could potentially be exempt from council tax rather than just on a reduced rate.

AFAIK the solicitor has said nothing about the money. I suspect they’re hoping it’ll revert to them.

I don't know for sure, but I would have thought the money would eventually go to the other residuary beneficiaries.

We're the solicitors the executors, or were they appointed by the executor?

From an inheritance POV he can renounce, but then he could be at risk of being pursued for overpaid benefits.

Just Googled it....you can only renounce within 2 years of the death.

I and the solicitor were both named as executors.

If that is the case I can't see why the solicitors won't talk to you about how to resolve the matter, if you are joint executors.

You need to at least find out if there are any ongoing charges involved.

There's no legal way for that to happen.  The inheritance belongs to your brother.

Unless it's being eroded by charges!!

Do solicitors usually charge ongoing fees in these circumstances?  Do they do anything for free?
