Hi all,
I am in the process of buying a flat and have had a credit search against my file from LMS - O NEILL PATIENT SOLICITORS.
Neither myself or the developer are using these solicitors, does anyone know why they would be searching my file?

Naturally I am panicking and nervous about an unknown solicitor carrying out searches.

Ive bought a few houses recently and Ive never seen solicitors do a “credit” check. However solicitors can carry out a soft search of certain bits of information for an identity check to check there is NOT A CONFLICT of interest between you and the seller. Usually big firms with multiple offices. Ive seen one on a Family Law file - when ex husband was sent a copy of his file by the solicitors
EDITED - Ive done various Google searches with the right words which would pick up a privacy statement on their website and having found it, it does not refer to the above. Id be sending them an email to ask tbh0 -

Hi Densol,
Thank you for your response. The search carried out was:Identity Check to comply with Anti Money Laundering Regulations
Is this normal when purchasing a property? The most concerning part for me is that I have never heard of them.
Thanks again,

Yes, pretty normal these days - your solicitor needs to check your identity, and doing it online saves everyone the hassle of physically checking your ID documents.Jamesdobo said:The search carried out was:Identity Check to comply with Anti Money Laundering Regulations

Identity checks are standard practice whenever large sums of involved. There'll be thousands of companies that you've never heard of. Nor will ever do unless you cross paths during the course of a business transaction.Jamesdobo said:Hi Densol,

Thank you so much. I have just checked and my solicitor is a subsidiary. Panic over, your help is much appreciated. I can now enjoy the weekend rather than hoping for Tuesday to come by so I can find out! Phew! Thanks againL_T_88 said:ONP have a couple of subsidiaries. Who are you using?
