Mixer shower not very hot

  • Wow - impressive setup!
Ok, see the third pipe across from the left, and the one fifth up from the bottom? Well, ignore them and every other pipe. (Hey, it was April Fool's, er, a couple of days ago...)
Ideally you want to find the supply to just your shower, but failing that you need to know how to turn off the whole hot and cold. Hopefully one of the friendly resident plumbers on here will advise.
You could do it by turning off the main SC, but you'd then need to drain a fair bit of hot water away afterwards by running a tap to depressurise the tank - a waste.
Have you got the handle off yet?!

Not yet but I think it's easy as there is a removable flap!

Wife wants someone professional to do it!!

And you, my child, are that professional.
Unless you mess it up, in which case don't come crying on here...

Almost certainly a prise-off cover with a screw in the middle below. Undo, and pull the handle straight off - tho' it may be quite tight.
Just had a thought! That's the temp control - the other handle is the flow control, and presumably that affects both hot and cold. In which case, as long as you leave the flow handle 'off', there should be no water going to the therm side. Ie, you should be safe to undo that cartridge...
That's all assumption, of course
You should find out how to shut off the hot and cold in any case - that is info you should have for any watery eventuality.

Yes, looks like there's a wee screwdriver slot at the bottom edge

I will try over the next day or 2.  If I don't switch off the water from the stopcock, will it be ok as the shower will in the off position?

I don't know, but I think so. The flow control - on/off - comes before the temp control, so in theory no water should come out.
But, I don't know for sure!
The thermo cartridge won't just pop out - it'll need unscrewing a good number of turns. It'll become very obvious whether there's water pressure behind it before you actually remove it fully, but I'd still like to know for sure first...

    PLUMBERS?!

  • Another thing - the cartridge might be tight and hard to initially unscrew - to 'break the seal'. So hold the mixer body firmly in one hand to try and counter the turning force as much as possible.

I have no clue as they were done by the previous owner about 6 years ago. All I know is that they are porcelain as I have a spare box in the shed.
