It would be advisable to replace both plug and socket as a pair to ensure a safe connection. If you do you must make sure you replace the socket with a socket and the plug with a plug, so you don't end up with exposed live pins.

Its a 2 part plug connector
The small part is what gets attached to the cable and then slides back inside the outer housing

Yes thats the Black and decker type connector
I was thinking of putting the plug end of one of those on the mower and then using one half of this to convert to the Flymo type

All my electric garden tools and garden extension cables are on flymo connector 
So only looking to change one item - not all
