I am having real problems getting my new sky broadband connected and I am really hoping someone could help me please.
I have installed the broadband disc onto pc and cant get a connection from the telephone socket in the bedroom which is where I have the PC set up. I can only obtain a connection from the main socket downstairs in the lounge.
Ok - here is what I have done...
I have 3 sockets in the house, one telephone line, the main box coming into the house and has sky and the dowstairs telephone plugged in - I have put one of the filters I received onto this socket. I have another box in bedroom 1 which has a filter fitted also and the bedroom telephone (I have tried this unplugged too), and the 3rd socket is in bedroom 2 which I have the broadband connected usually - this also has a filter on it. I have tried to just operate with one filter on the Bedroom 2 socket to see if this helps - but it doesnt...
I have been on the phone to sky numerous times - and they are now saying I will get an emergency telephone call within 3 days!!!..
I can't understand why I can get a connection downstairs, but not upstairs when its all the same line!. I have had line checks etc etc from Sky, and have read the help booklet many times - and have done everthing that suggested - for example swap the filters round - reset the router...
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

When you say you can't connect, do you mean you are getting a yellow flashing adsl light on the router?
what does www.routerlogin.com

sky
say
eg
Modem Status Connected
DownStream Connection Speed xxxx kbps
UpStream Connection Speed xxx kbps
VPI 0
VCI 38
Are you using ethernet or wireless?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Hi Albertross... Thanks for your reply...
When I am downstairs - I get a flashing amber light - then a solid green one... When I am upstairs - I don't even get any light at all on the internet connection part of the router...
I will connect the computer at home up tonight and see what that website that you suggested says... but it will have to be from the main socket as I wont get that far from the socket upstairs!.
Sky still haven't called me back to help!.
I really appreicate your advice. I am using ethernet.
Thank you0 -
Are the phone sockets upstairs Phone Extension leads or are they wired into the main socket. If they are extensions then this maybe the cause. You phones might be working but some routers dont like running on long extension leads.Don't listen to the bad things about Vista its the best
Just because it's free don't mean it's good
Ditch Norton Now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :wall:
Just Because you read it some where don't mean it's right

As gremlin says, an internal wired extension could be the issue, but presumably you have used the same line for internet before? Try unplugging all phones, and sky box, and just have one filter on the extension.
it isn't a website, it is the router config screen, so you don't have to be on the net for it to workEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
