50/50 Accident over 15 months ago, being asked to pay 50% of the repairs.

Hi there,
Hopefully someone can advise on an email i received today!

Back in December 2019 I was involved in an accident in a supermarket carpark, I was reversing into space, and another car pulled out behind me and we collided.  After discussing with the insurance company (Autonet, with Kitsune as underwriter) over a number of weeks, a 50/50 claim decision was made, which I accepted, I paid my excess and my car was eventually repaired and as far as i was concerned, the claim was closed.

Just a few days ago, i received an email from a claims company called WNS Assistance who have said I need to pay 50% of the repair costs of my car, which is £800.   Being 15 months after the accident I was very surprised to receive this, and was not aware of any further costs I need to pay.  So I guess my question is, is this normal to have to pay 50% of my own repair costs in a 50/50 claim?  After reading online I cannot see any other examples of this happening, and just assumed my insurer dealt with everything?

Many thanks for your help!

A 50:50 claim means you are liable for half of the third party's costs (which your insurance will cover), and the third party for half of yours (which their insurance would cover). You would need fully comprehensive insurance for your own insurer to cover the remainder of your vehicle's repair bill. If you do have fully comprehensive insurance (which it sounds like you do, as there's not normally an excess for third party claims), then pass the bill on to your insurer to deal with.

@tripled Thanks very much, the cover with the insurer at the time (and with my new insurer now incidentally) is definitely Comprehensive, so is it just a matter of forwarding the email onto my old insurer?

I called Autonet and I believe they are just a broker and they told me they have passed me on to Kitsune, so just a matter of speaking to Kitsune?

Yup, pass it on to Kitsune if that is what the broker has advised. If in doubt, your old policy documentation should have the details of the claims handling contacts.

@tripled I spoke to Kitsune this afternoon and they have advised that the email was sent to me in error and should have been addressed to the third party insurer (Axa).  They apologized to me for having received it and told me to just ignore it and they would rectify at their end.

Thanks so much for the advice!
