Should I ditch some credit cards before applying for a mortgage ?

Looking to apply for a mortgage soon. However I have around 8 credit cards that I had previously used for stoozing, with limits between 2 and 5K on each.
All paid off and no missed payments or anything but should I get rid of some of them before applying? The total amount I could borrow on the cards is around 30K
so that surely would have an impact on my mortgage application ? My credit score is very good.

There's no need to close accounts with limits that low. And if you're close to applying, it's not a good time to start making big changes to your files.

Your credit score won't be taken into account for your application, but your credit history will.

@mynewusername25 From my experience, irrespective of credit limit, if you're not carrying debt, closing credit cards or leaving them open is unlikely to have a material impact on your chances of a mortgage. As a broker, the fewer the cards on the client's credit file, the easier it is to key in an application with some lenders
