This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone

Air feels quite cool this morning.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc, enjoy your days off.
Thinking of you as always Gers.
Scary times Ruby, you did the right thing in calling the police.
Hope the poorlies are feeling better today.
It's a lovely morning but quite chilly, washing on the line and my winter coat is in the WM, hope to get that out before I go to work. Last day before the holidays so it will be very busy, must send out a text to all parents this morning reminding them that it's a 2.30 finish - don't want to be left with children during my holidays!
Although I woke up early I had a better nights sleep than I've had for a while so feel quite refreshed. Have a good day, take care. XX15 -

Morning all
Looks to be a bit cooler today and then really cold just about right as i have ordered a skip for the big house so we can cut all the bushes back never mind i am sure we will get it done anyway if not this week then next . Yesterday was just a sort out day of things to go over with us at the weekend so i will pack my car in a bit DH has gone to work and will go to the house from there his car is full mine has the back seats down so we can fill it full each time so i don't like to put stuff in the night before as you can see right into it. Cleaners are coming today but i might move them to fortnightly as not too much to do i have booked 2 hours but its really only the floors to wash and the kitchen and bathroom . I need to change the beds and get the washing on this morning but other than that not a lot to do 3 viewings booked for Saturday hopefully we will get a few more no offers from last weeks so we will wait and see what these say I think we have made up our minds if we haven't got the price we want by the time we get back from holiday mid July we will put it up to rent not what we wanted to do but we can't keep paying for 2 properties indefinitely. Right onwards n upwards dog needs walking and then will start the garage shuttle runs with everything i want to hide
Gers as always I am thinking of you and mum x
Dumpling you and your family are in my thoughts x
Hugs to all those with poorlies or worries hang on in there lovelies we are getting closer to being able to be with our loved ones and friends less than 2 weeks now if all goes wellSlava Ukraini14 -
Good morning, thanks for starting NMLC.It's not a very nice morning here, grey and damp.Yesterday turned out to be another pleasant day, so i swept up outside, and Dh took the front gate off, jet washed it, and gave it a coat of paint, it looks much better now.Nothing planned for today, though I took my summer clothes out of the loft yesterday, think I'll have a trying on session today and give them a quick wash.Hope everyone has a good day, thinking of Gers and her mum, and others who are finding life difficult.Take care folks13

Morning all. Today is going to prove chillier than yesterday when I sat in the garden quite happily. Water board did turn up..About 3 o clock. There's a leak before the meter. They looked a bit shifty when I asked before or after so I'll ring the waterboard today and see if I can nab myself a discount. You never know. Last day for OH, hooray, I can try out my new pillow tonight. I've slept on the sofa for the last four and it's not the best place. I don't have specific plans for today. Find something to eat that's healthy. We had tuna last night. I did look for the recommended recipe [seared tuna steak] but I had no ingredients for that so I cooked it in oil and black peppercorns instead. And I was having a fridge clear out and found the buttermilk, BB jan, opened smelled it, smelled fine so I made cheesy scones which I am having for breakfast. It's made them very light and fluffy, they don't have any of that dry crumblieness they usually have the day after. I went washing crazy yesterday so my big thick snuggle hoodie thing is ready to be pressed into service when the weather gets cold again. And I get to be sociable tonight, two friends are coming to the goth box.Ruby, I've gone a bit Jamie mad, how did the recipe come out? TA, enjoy your little helper
Maddie, hugs, can't be easy not being able to say goodbye in the usual fashion. dp1,hope you're better today. Rosy, I'm envious of tree slashing. I could do with a bit of that. Gers, hope she's better today and no longer being 'disturbed' ....Happy moving soon Hester.. Hope your hands are improving Nelksi and your shoulder slowly AOD. Right, I'm off to do exciting things like nothing at all. Stay sane you lovely lot!

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. A dull morning out there but no rain forecast. But the temps are due to halve - after 2 days of 20 deg it's dropping to 10 deg!
Me and my little apprentice got the front garden weed free and dug over yesterday. It was hard work for legs that don't like bending but K, bless her, did the worst of that. It won't be featured in Homes and Gardens any time soon but I am happy with it! I think we were both fed up by the time we finished but the worst is done and I just need to keep up to it now. K was delighted with her "wage" of a £20 note and couldn't wait to show her mum. She earned every penny, for a little 'un she worked blooming hard and on my own I would still be looking at it in despair!
So today will be a day off! And just 'cos the rules now allow it I think I might get the bus to the next little town along and see what the F & V stall on the little open air market has to offer. I have a grocery delivery Saturday but it would be nice to choose my own after all this time. I really should get a dolly trolley, it would make life so much easier.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need. Dp1 I hope you are feeling better. Like you, both my DD and DS were knocked for six after their vaccs but I was fine with just a sore arm after my 2nd. Odd how some people are affected more than others. Thinking of GERS and DM, hoping the phone call to the Dr was helpful. ((HUGS)) for all else in need and take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"13 -
Ruby, I'm interested in the recipe too - we like to eat veggie regularly but I struggle to find recipes I find satisfying because I'm a real carnivore at heart. I love traditional aubergine parmigiano but it's a faff so I'm hoping this will be a good substitute.
We are now alone, the house is very quiet and we're missing the little one like crazy while feeling incredibly lucky we've had so much of him. We'll see him again tomorrow because they couldn't fit all their belongings in the car. We'll take them down and have an Esben fest at the same time because we will still be their childcare bubble. Laura has taken my small sewing machine because she has learned to sew during lockdown and has done very well. She has a jumpsuit pattern she wants to try - I'm sure she'll end up more proficient than me. I see sewing bee is back in a couple of weeks, she may well end up on that.
Steve has golf today, he has an eye operation next week to try to smooth out his wavy retina, hopefully it will be successful although there are no guarantees. We've decided to pay for it as the NHS class it as non-urgent, probably because it doesn't affect most people's vision too much, Steve is one of the unfortunate few who does have problems with it.
Gers, I hope your mum is comfortable. Healing vibes and sympathy to everyone else who is experiencing health issues and injury.15 -
Morning folks.Yesterday was such a lovely day, not bright sunshine, just warm and very pleasant. I wasn't out for long but really enjoyed it. I was overdressed for the warmth but couldn't open my jacket up as I was wearing a very old holey jumper would have shamed me. 🤣 I've been wearing in the house all during lockdown and winter, changing it slipped my mind.
DM was very sleepy all day once the feeling of disturbance passed. She didn't eat any lunch but then enjoyed a fish cake later in the evening. Thanks for all the good wishes, they really help. The cleaner is coming this morning, I've bought then a medium sized Lindt bunny each, white for her and dark for her husband who is our window cleaner. When she's here I'll go out for an hour. It's lovely to read about gardens coming back to life. When I was out yesterday I drove down a suburban dual carriageway with a broad central reservation ( the Switchback Road) which was packed with hundreds of daffodils in bloom. As I was going downhill the sight was just beautiful, really cheery. My thoughts are with the poorlies. Happy Thursday to all.14 -
Morning
RedRuby I'm glad you weren't alone when you spotted those two men. This has definitely got worse over the past few months and each story I read makes me more angry. I won't let Scamp off the lead if I'm on my own (his recall is great, but even so....) and avoid anywhere quiet. CityFibre are round here at the moment, digging up paths and laying cable, it feels safe for now. It's usually pretty quiet here during the day, I don't know I'll feel when the blokes have finished their work and the roads are empty again. I'll probably arm myself, tbh.
Gers I hope you and your mum are OK x
We were supposed to go to Son & DIL's last night for a cuppa in the garden but he had his first jab the other day, he had side effects for a couple of days but he's fine now, except he feels worn by about 7pm – it's driving him nuts, lol. His van is booked in at the garage this morning so he's taking his bike with him and will ride round here for a cuppa while the work is being done. I haven't seen him for more than 10 minutes at a time for what seems like forever so it'll be nice to sit for a while.
Not much going on here, I've been pottering rather than doing one big job at a time. Bit of work, bit of gardening, bit of housework (repeat once or twice) then if there's enough day left, a bit of painting. I'm keeping busier this way and getting more done. I'm easily bored so can't stick with one thing for too long, I get fed up then just stop. Unless it's crochet, which I'm not allowing myself to do at the moment because I will sit for hours doing that at the expense of everything else, lol.

Morning all
Sunny here but very windy the washing can go on the line its a good drying day !
The Jamie O recipe was really tasty I am a real carnivore too as is OH but did not miss it with this meal, the aubergine is really 'meaty' so it satisfied us both, I would cook it again for sure.
OH is off today but having a lay in bed I dont blame him as he is up at 6 every day normally, we will take the dogs out later for a good walk. The Fish and chip van comes to the village tonight so we are going to treat ourselves to that as a treat, if the wind drops we will take a bottle of wine to the park and eat our fish and chips there we have done this before and it feels like a real treat.
DW needs emptying and I shall have a sweep through the rest can wait, I want to get out and enjoy the sunshine.
Have good days all and hugs to gers Mum xx13
