The biggest dilemma about HD TVs is whether to buy LCD or Plasma.
Plasmas use more electric, but if you are a footie fan large LCDs are very prone to streaking when the ball is moving around too fast, these wizz lines can be rather annoying. Doesn't happen on Plasmas
Ok I think basically the rule of thumb is anthing sammler than 32inch then lcd is fine. anything bigger then go for plasma.0 -
Plasma screens also fade in a manner that LCDs do not. Though pixels die on LCD screens, the question is after how long.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquid_crystal_display_television. Old LCDs had problems but if you get a 6ms response rate then I think you should be fine. I think 8ms is probably fast enough.
My understanding is that the issue is more about sources than screen type. If you are using Freeview which is quite compressed then you are going to have problems whether LCD or Plasma and on screen sizes lower than 32 inches. I think satellite tends to be a bit less compressed.
For football analogue is generally better than Freeview. To be quite honest a 32" screen if you look too closely shows the limitations of standard definition, a bigger screen will do so more so.
Freesat launches next year (http://www.freesat.co.uk/home.php) and that should start to bring HD to the masses. My view is if you are a moneysaver and your TV is not broke wait a while. As the Hannspree demonstrates there are still problems with cheap LCDs.0 -
Anyone any problems with 32" model of intermittant crackling i.e. single sound but every minute or so. Almost sounds like an electric shock running through the screen.
Bought the tv two weeks ago from Misco and not sure what to do. Have checked connections as leads are slightly short and wondered if they werent connecting fully but even when checked still happening.
Noticed it over last 3-4 days.
Anyone else?If only I could stop finding good bargains on this site, I would save a fortune! :rotfl:0
