Plumbing issues...

I had a new bathroom supplied & fitted by a local plumbers firm. After 16 months water was leaking into the room below. The same plumbing firm came back, removed a tile from the side of the bath & found the leak was due to a washer that had been accidentally twisted on installation. A new washer was fitted & the bath panel tile replaced with a spare one that I had left over from the original work.
I have just received an invoice for £200 for “parts & labour” from the company which I’m most disappointed about.
Given that I was told, by the plumber that came to fix the fault, the leak arose directly from the incorrectly fitted washer surely I shouldn’t be expected to pay any costs associated with repairing the fault.
Has the plumbing firm fallen short of the minimum standards required by law when providing a “service”.
Just to clarify: I was told the washer was not faulty it had been incorrectly fitted by the plumber that had originally installed the bathroom.
Thank you

I would not be paying such an invoice any time soon.JTJD said:I had a new bathroom supplied & fitted by a local plumbers firm. After 16 months water was leaking into the room below. Make a nicely worded complaint to the company concerned in writing stating the facts as you have done in your post above.
Don't start quoting 'the law' as you will only antagonise them.

I think you'll find now that the plumber has no knowledge of making that statement when you question the bill. Were there any witnesses to this conversation.?JTJD said:Just to clarify: I was told the washer was not faulty it had been incorrectly fitted by the plumber that had originally installed the bathroom.Thank you0 -
This surprises me as I had a similar kind of problem, just with the toilet. My toilet was blocked and I called out plumber in Bristol. They had to take off the toilet as the blockage was further along somewhere in the waste pipe. That's all fine, they unblocked it, put the toilet back, but in a coupole of days I noticed that there is a leak underneath the toilet. When I called them, they were very apologetic, came the same day and sorted it out without a cost. I think that is the way plumbers shold work, but I guess it's not the case for the big companies, as it is all about business and making money. Not like local plumber companies that need to keep their reputation clean.0

Send them a bill for the damage caused by the original fitters negligence.0
