There websites says they will give more time for each home delivery so customer can place items in own containers or bags, when asked would they place them in my trays(have 3 laundry baskets use for this) was told it was at driver own discretion......but they will still stay at safe distance.  I am afraid they will be at my place longer than they hoped if I'm doing the transferring !!!  Oh happy days....some come with smile on face and others - well best not describe there look.
I was always unhappy at the plastic waste - but for sheer ease of the delivery and mine plus driver ease I paid it.

  • So if I’m correct they went from a option of carrier bags to no carrier bags then back to carrier bags for pandemic. Then during pandemic back to no carrier bags, then to tray liners then to no tray liners?

Great, was a complete waste of plastic.

Yes a complete waste if you don’t need it but not a complete waste if you paid the 40p to actually have it.

Only if you don't need them.  (The tray liners themselves were a waste of plastic - there was a lot more plastic in one than in 2 carrier bags and the tray liners held less because of their shape.)

I can only pick up one thing at a time. If they wait for me to transfer groceries they'll need to bring a flask and sandwiches. Though they are usually very helpful.

I am considering making a bag out of the tray liners I've collected so far. Cut into one long strip and then crocheted. I did it once before with ASDA carrier bags and it lasted for years.

This made me laugh.....I was so worried when I read the change because while not infirm I am just not as agile - I paid the 40p to stop any ums and ahhs from delivery persons but will quote the above - I know some will have a laugh.  Agree that most are stars and very kind.

Well I spoke to delivery man today and a big oops ... I began by asking whether the 3 laundry baskets I put out are ok for the shopping without plastic liners for him to place items in or do I have to do it - as I will be a wee bit slow as my knee acts up sometimes.  No love I can't touch your baskets or your items  - but it's  fine because you pay for liners.  Looking slightly bewildered I said yes but they are stopping liners from 19th April, oops delivery persons have no idea of change,  I quickly explained that Tesco were allowing more time for this change and I was sure I would get quicker at transferring - thought best not to mention the flask and sandwiches!!!

But you won’t be paying 40p when they stop them. No one needs a tray liner, they are useless as you can’t pick anything up in them as they fill the totes to the brim.

Worked fine for me... lifted the liner up no problem

I agree that the tray liners are waste of money and cannot be used for anything after, but I paid the 40p out of what I thought was a need for safety and to aid my delivery and cut out contact during the times we find ourselves in.  In an ideal shopping world I would go to supermarket myself but my health and concerns curtailed this and age creeps on.  I will still use Tesco for home delivery(Sainsbury or Waitrose cannot deliver on my day) - but the drop off will now be based on me emptying there stack boxes - one at a time and I will ask for them to be placed on ground as if they cant touch my baskets to place food in - I am sure  not going to lift there boxes either.

I don't believe the driver was right about not touching your items (before you've handled them) so be sure and ask next time as well.
