Depends on the council policy and your other circumstances? Why can you not live in your mortgaged home?Joanieclarkie said:Can I apply for a council house if I have a mortgage0 -
Go read YOUR council's guidance on the matter. Apologies but I can't read it from here. Different councils, different rules. But I doubt it. What is mortgage for, sole name, joint names, what sort of property? If e.g. joint with dad & 3 brothers on a commercial garage rented out probably OK....btw you won;t be applying for a council house, but going on the housing register which puts you in a queue for council & housing association properties.Depending on your circumstances you could wait years, decades or for ever (again, read guidance document). So e.g. if healthy single you might well wait decades or more..Something massively reduced council housing availability: Right to Buy.3

Of course you can apply.Joanieclarkie said:Can I apply for a council house if I have a mortgage
Do you stand a chance of being allocated a property? No. Not unless there are seriously compelling reasons why you cannot possibly remain in the house you own (say, it's imminently being repossessed), and are a high priority for housing due to vulnerability or disability.4 -
Thank you everyone. I’ve just returned to the UK and there is a lovely little family in my house which they look after it really well. It would be really hard for them to find something and I don’t know how long I’m staying here.0

depending on your circumstances you could be many years on a council waiting list, be best to look at private rentals for yourself if you don't want to live in your own property.0

Just get a private rental, seriously even if you get on a list it would take decades to get a house/flat even without owning another!Joanieclarkie said:Thank you everyone. Look at rentals at similar prices to the one you own and are renting out.
You basically hav no chance of any social housing. The world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon2 -

You will not be eligible for a social housing as you have an asset you could be living in & are receiving an income from.
You do not have a need for social housing.

It depends on your circumstances - if you are having financial problems and there would be no equity remaining from the sale of your home then yes you are eligible to at least go into the register. How your application would be banded is a whole other question but that doesn’t just look at finances. If you have equity, unless you are applying for specialist accommodation such as extra care, then you would not be eligible for social housing.0

"I'm a landlord and don't want to give my tenants notice" is NOT going to get you any priority on the housing list.Joanieclarkie said:Thank you everyone. Nor, frankly, should it...
You're going to have to rent something privately for yourself.7
