British gas account in high credit suddenly.
Hello.
I have been with British Gas now for nearly 2 years and every time I am due a bill it has been taken by direct debit with no issues. Last week I logged onto my account and noticed that it was in credit by nearly £3000.. my annual cost is roughly £600. I have no idea why this has happened. I have contacted them by phone and by live chat. The agent I was put through to on the phone literally has no clue what on earth was going on, he was as clueless as me. The agent on live chat said they also have no idea where this credit has come from but they will pass it through to their specialist department who may have an answer within 7 days.
The only thing I got from them was that someone has credited this money into my account from somewhere by standing order. It was definitely not from my bank account. Is anyone aware of this happening before or what could have caused this? I do not really have 7 days to wait for an answer?
Thanks.

Presumably someone made an error with their account number and quoted yours when paying in. They'll probably realise and complain in a month or two and it will get sorted out.0

Check your BillsIt's not uncommon for a supplier being paid by D/Debit, to lose either the Elec or Gas consumption from within their system, and only bill for one of the two. This generates an ever increasing false credit on the account0
