windscreen cover
Do any insurers have better policies on glass than the others?
My last policy said they treat a glass claim as a "a claim" as well as an excess of £100 for replacement. A claim will affect no claims and premium renewal.
Seems to me to be futile to pay an excess of £100 and have a claim recorded against you when you can have the glass changed independently probably not far from £200 - £250
Are there any who do not treat replacement as a claim and with less or no excess for glass replacement?
EDIT ideal solution is a company that does not treat glass replacement or repair as a claim and who have little to no excess.

In that scenario I'd definitely be reaching into my own pocket rather than making a claim. Some windscreens are more expensive than others, though. Last year my son had to have his replaced on his Yaris, we paid £150 for a local independent guy who did a great job. But some cars will be many times that amount to replace a screen. To answer your question, all companies are different. Many will offer a repair for free (if it can be repaired), but a replacement is usually classed as a claim, with an associated excess. It's just a case of shopping around and seeing what's on offer.

Most insurers will treat a glass replacement as a claim which you will have to declare, although it won't usually affect your NCD.xxxxxxxx said:Do any insurers have better policies on glass than the others?

My record is two in a month, in the same car.Hunyani_Flight_825 said:Op how many screens have you broken to have this issue as a major factor in who you insure your car with?
I think I've had a total of four, in 30+ years driving.0 -

I think the excess with Direct Line is £70.I had a windscreen replaced a year or two back and it did not appear as a claim on my renewal paperwork or affect my NCD with Direct Line. I think that's normal, but I don't have a lot of experience with broken windscreens.0

Last time I looked, they tended to be about £75 if you used their preferred installer, £150 if you didn't.mgfvvc said:xxxxxxxx said:Are there any who do not treat replacement as a claim and with less or no excess for glass replacement?I don't think there are any insurers who don't have an excess for glass replacement. Last time one of the national big-names did a screen for me, they made a right mess of it - took hours, and it leaked terribly afterwards.0 -
You are partly right, it's £75 in both cases but if you don't use Autoglass they won't pay more than £125. I couldn't fault the replacement screen I had from Autoglass.AdrianC said:
