I left the job about 5/6 years ago now and I`ve only just found out that i`m paying tax for the job i`m no longer employed in. The company hasn`t informed HMRC I have left the job. Can never get ahold of HMRC these days so would like too know can I get a tax refund or?
When I left the job I was already in employment with another company and I was doing PT studies.
Thank You

If you arent earnung anything from the other job, then you wont be paying any tax from that job.
Your issue may be that your current jon was formerly your second job, and as such, you would have had a BR tax code on this job.
You need to check your tax code0 -
Sign up to an online HMRC personal tax account as I believe you can update your employment details online.

was this a busines that's all above board? I know in the past some unscrupulous businesses would have ex employees on the payroll to get money out of the business and avoid corporation tax.Nannytone said:If you arent earnung anything from the other job, then you wont be paying any tax from that job.

You need to check your tax codeYou can indirectly. You may be paying high rate of tax, if you're still being reported as employed in the other job, which bumps you up into a higher tax bracket.I know HMRC are slow with these, I received letters from HMRC asking me to advise the business to use my new tax code. The business was something I worked for several years ago. I got really paranoid because the company used to deal with stolen goods, VAT fraud etc. The owner was dodgy.1
