With my SM now being upgraded, I am now happy knowing that my gas meter is now auto read - one less job to do.  Just need Evolve to start autoreading my electricity meter and job is done.  I like gadgets and SM are great gadgets.  IHD is great for recording my daily usage - to ensure that my usage is in line with my DD.  Yes, this is what SM are supposed to do, but if I notice a change before my supplier does, I can action it quicker and keep any increase to a minimum.

Time of Use tariffs will make it too expensive to use electricity when it suits you, you'll have to use it when it suits the grid.  If you don't comply, then load limiting or load shedding is there as the longstop.

That is a rather cynical view, which I have seen no evidence of. It also seems you want someone else to cover the cost of you using electricity when it suits you.

Smart meters main advantage is they can work out how much energy each provider needs to buy to cover their position, rather than estimating it based on % customer numbers in an area.
