This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Gers - thinking of you and your mum x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now getting light - air is mild too.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was fish, chips and beans for the menfolk. I had baked fish and veg. Tonight will be chicken.
Yesterday work was hectic, very busy and didn't stop all day, today likely to be similar.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc, I was the same as you yesterday - don't think my bottom was on my seat for more than 5 mins at a time yesterday!
I have bedding on the line, still trying to catch up with the washing from my visitors. Hoping for the forecast dry day, it's quite breezy so fingers crossed.
Thinking of you Gers, you're doing an amazing job for your DM.
Hope the poorlies are recovering.
I had a better nights sleep than Sunday night so feel a little more with it this morning. Have a good day everyone, take care. XX13 -
Morning

Must've been something in the air (the nice weather maybe? lol) because I had a busy day too. I didn't realise how tired I was last week til yesterday, I woke up full of energy and raring to go. I spent the day working, pruning and tidying, I've caught up with all the washing too. I didn't intend to do so much but I just kept going, the thought of sitting down just seemed boring.
More of the same today but at a slightly slower pace – I feel normal this morning and the thought of sitting down is quite appealing, lol. I'll walk Scamp then do a bit of work until the shopping arrives. I'll see what I feel like after lunch. I have a bit of painting to do, also some gardening and I should take advantage of the nice weather because it's only meant to last a couple of days. I definitely won't be doing both, lol.
Florenceem I meant to say the other day, your poncho is fabulous! x

Good morning everyone

I spent most of the night sitting up on the sofa so I feel very achey today but hopefully that will wear off soon. I am currently waiting for a couple of weeks worth of antibiotics to be delivered as unfortunately my legs are manky again. It's very disappointing as they have been fine for a few weeks now but on Saturday, they both swelled up and the skin on my calf and foot split again...very ouchy. The district nurses will call in to dress them and take swabs probably today so I have to crack the whip and get the living room carpet vacuumed as they are very hairy due to the dogs moulting. Oh well, there's a lot worse happening so I am not going to moan.
Gers, I am sorry to hear about your mum not being too well. Sending you loads of love and strength for the next bit. You are an amazing daughter and I would be so proud if one of mine treated me the same way xx
Nelski, I hope your hands are a bit better today. Maybe the warmer weather coming will help a bit and at least you can top up your tan xx
My sister had a video call with a surgeon from Harley Street as she has asked for a second opinion. He seemed quite optimistic that she could have surgery to remove a lot of the cancer and give her an extra 3 years, but she has to have 3 rounds of chemo first to shrink the tumours as much as possible. She is finding chemo very painful but is still staying positive. I admire her spirit and the way she is tackling this and she has so much family support as well.
Right, I am off to make some breakfast. We are having chicken goujon wraps for dinner so I don't have to think about cooking. Hope you all have a great day and if you can't, have a massive cwtchy hug. Take care xx13 -
Morning folks. The day is dry, such a relief after the constant rain yesterday. I'm trying to keep myself relaxed but it's my mind which is running at high speed, it's exhausting. Thanks for the messages, they mean a lot.DM was OK yesterday, she ate a full lunch though little else. A young great niece wrote her an enormous email full of chat and news. I had to print it out as it was five and a half pages long - reading that kept DM busy for ages as she likes to go over everything thoroughly. No idea what today will bring. Meanwhile I hope that everyone has a happy Tuesday.13

I'll do a spot of bed changing and will get the stuff dry outside I think - aprt from other household jobs there are no plans. We did put some plants in yeaterday, and if the wind has dropped I'll sweep up a bit.Florenceem, like Tru, I meant to say how lovely that poncho is, beautiful glowing colours.Thinking of Gers and her Mum, and hoping thta they've had a peaceful night.Have a good day everyone, and take care.14

Morning everyone
I had my first Covid jab yesterday and it's knocked me for six!
About 4 hours after it I felt exhausted and went and lay on my bed - straight to sleep and woke up more than four hours later. I got up, made an omelette and watched some TV. I went to bed about 9 and have had an awful night - aching, sweating and had the most awful dreams - more like hallucinations really. Ive been up and had some breakfast but am still aching all over and so dizzy so I'm going back to bed. Fingers crossed I have some sleep and wake up a bit better.
Hope everyone else is having a better start to their day and your mum has a good day today Gers13 -
Good Morning.
Bright but cold here.
Gers, I'm glad that you had a better day yesterday, but you are living on your nerves now and it's bound to be exhausting. You are living for both yourself and your DM so be as kind to yourself as you can manage. Hugs.
Dumpling, you too. You are going through the mill both physically and emotionally. It is enough to send anyone doolally. You are doing so well and being so strong, give yourself a break sometimes and make sure that you make room for a bit of indulgence now and again. Hugs to you too.
I spent most of yesterday knee-deep in paperwork. A lot has been shredded and the recycling bin is groaning, but I think that I have only dealt with the tip of the iceberg. Back to it today.
I have been given a slot for my second jab on Thursday, just before my first dentist's appointment for over a year. I'm giving myself the rest of Thursday off.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.14 -
Morning, hugs if you need one, sorry to hear your legs are worse Dumpling. Pleased to hear that your Mum was a little better yesterday.
I am off shortly to get my second jab, I must have been mad to elect for 9.30am.......I will hit the rush hour traffic, so may well go the back way and avoid most of it. Washing is in the machine will hang it out when I get back, heating is off and windows open.
Will be back later.9 -
Gers,I can only echo what everyone else said. Dumpling, healing vibes for the legs, your sister sounds a very strong woman.
I've been mia again, I hardly get any lappy time with Esben around, not that I'm complaining. I am having a few minutes now because Steve and I had Esben by ourselves from 8am until 9.30 last night. He was great, no tears at all but unfortunately couldn't settle at bedtime, he refused the bottle of Laura's milk, probably because he's not had a bottle now for several months. He didn't cry though until he saw his mummy, I felt terrible. He's happy enough this morning though. I'm shattered but they're going home today and I'll miss them so much. Esben is saying so many things now, I'll miss his increasing vocabulary. Oh well, we've had them for nearly 4 months which is a great bonus, especially compared to last year when we weren't able to see them at all for nearly the same length of time so I mustn't grumble. We'll still be their childcare bubble so I will go to see the at least once a week.
We went over to see Crystal yesterday and spent an hour in their beautiful, sunny walled garden. They've worked so hard on it and are beginning to reap the rewards. There were lots of ladybirds coming out and bees and even a butterfly flew around the garden it was so warm. I hope they aren't all being lured out prematurely. Esben was in heaven kicking his ball and playing with pebbles, he was wary of Crystal at first but it will take him a while to get used to other adults after being isolated so long.
Steve has gone for his first golf game since lockdown and I have a blood test this morning so I'd better end here.
