British airways travel vouchers

Last May (2020) we had flights booked with BA which were obviously cancelled. We were issued with a travel voucher, there were 6 people in our party. Unfortunately my mother has passed away and we no longer want to travel without her and also that she obviously won't use her ticket now. We have contacted BA to ask for a refund and have explained that we don't want the voucher but they are refusing to offer a refund. Can they do this?

    So sorry for your loss.

Assuming you got Future Travel Vouchers (as opposed to a single e-voucher) then yes - what basically happens is a credit to each person that should have flown. Which as you are finding is fairly inflexible - my best advice here is to go to the BA discussion board on Flyertalk.com and post your question there - there are some really experienced people that will give you the about the best advice and guidance that I think you'll get anywhere (for free...)

Part of the challenge will be that as you have previously accepted a voucher, BA will not normally change that to a refund later, but there is one way around that - book a flight that's likely to get cancelled (and when it is, they will refund based on the original payment method).

Good luck and I hope you get this sorted out.

I agree with ratechaser, both that flyertalk has some real experts and the way around refunding the voucher is to book something that is very likely to be canceled.
I’m sorry for your loss, and this may seem unpalatable, but even including your late mother in the booking would mean a refund if/ when the flight is cancelled, though I would hope that BA would at least refund your mother’s ticket.

Doesn't look like the OP is coming back, too many single 'post and run' threads on this sub board, rather disappointing...

Thanks for the advice. BA have agreed to refund my mothers ticket but not ours. I think we will just have to rebook something else

Thanks for updating OP, glad that at least the most sensitive aspect has been sorted out - as I said, flyertalk is a good resource for advice, as there may be alternatives. That said, you've got till April 2023 to use the vouchers I believe.
