Hi everybody, looking for some advice...
I'm currently with Virgin for broadband and Sky for TV. However, I negotiated a better broadband deal with Virgin recently and wanted to take a full bundle with them, as they were offering me a much better TV deal than I'm on or likely to be on with Sky.
So I went on a live chat with Sky to inform them I wished to cancel. I've got until 04/06/21 left in my Sky contract (so not long), so was fully prepared to pay and early cancellation fee. However upon speaking with them, the agent said that I am not allowed to cancel my TV contract at all, and must remain with them until the end.
That's the first I've heard of this, is this correct/allowed?
Thanks

Seems short sighted not to just agree full payment now, but maybe the computer says no.
I wonder if you just said you're moving house and wont have sky at the new place, what they would then have suggested.Peter

So I wonder what constitutes a breach?0 -
For some reason, Sky won't let you cancel early even if you offer to pay the remaining charges. You just have to diarise when your contract ends and contact them just before to cancel. Annoying I know.0

Unlike broadband where you may be prepared to pay ETC and the current provider has to allow you to move (or cease the service) because if they didn’t allow it, it would impact the new provider , presumably with Sky TV , because no other company is impacted , you cannot take someone else’s TV service over the Sky satellite , then presumably it is legal for them to not offer any early termination option and simply say ‘pay till the end of the minimum term, then cancel’ , if they did offer early termination and the ETC the costs were exactly the same as seeing out the contract in full , then there is no financial loss as such , it’s just an inconvenience to remember when to call and cancel, no doubt Sky have factored that in, expecting some won’t cancel the instant the minimum term expires.

Dont forget you've got to give them 30 days notice, so if you give them notice now then you'll have to keep going to the 28th April.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0

They have further information here: https://www.sky.com/help/articles/cancel-sky-tv. The contract is a minimum of 31 days notice, so you should be able to put in your cancellation now for your final date of your contract if they won't just cancel (plus early termination charge), so that you don't forget. There is a contact us at the bottom of this page (Still need a hand?).0
