Thermostat Geofencing

Modern thermostats do geofencing but I decided it was a bad idea. When I leave home I turn off the heating and put the alarm on. With a geofence I would keep checking that it had worked and it would use a bit more fuel because the heating would be turned off later. If I was out for the day in winter and my house was 10 degrees and I was coming home turning my heating on when I was 1 mile away from home wouldn't lead to a nice warm house on arrival. So I have an internet enabled thermostat but ignore the geofence. Just wondered if people use the feature? Do they find it works? Am I just a dinosaur?

I am just thinking. I refused to buy the Tado because they charge a monthly fee for geofencing and then decided geofencing was rubbish anyway and I didn't want it!0

Actually I was right. You can't control the Tado at all when away from home without paying the fee.0

You can with other thermostats.Ibrahim5 said:You can't control the Tado at all when away from home without paying the fee.
I don't use geofencing because I walk, and cycle, not only drive.

I've got the Tado system (bought it before they started charging for the geo fencing so don't pay for that function). A few weeks ago, I wondered why it was so cold at home then I remembered my phone was a few miles in a shop being repaired

I suppose the idea is you forget about the thermostat. I guess if it works well you would. It's just that in the winter you would want it coming on half an hour before you get home. Might work if you were walking but not driving. What do you set the geofence distance at? Say your local pub is too local you would have to manually turn it off when you went there.0
