I'm on a cricket League’s committee. I'd say they're being daft.
All they're doing is creating extra work for the Treasurer and also now at the whim of Royal Mail delivering all the cheques.

You could tell them you've recently switched bank accounts and your new account no longer has a cheque book facility.
Or it's impossible to see other account signatories at present due to covid restrictions
