Hi all
I had a flight to Lanzarote cancelled from last year and I am due to fly out this year just 1 day after the easing of flight restrictions this year.
However, it's becoming clear that the likely guidance will be to have had a vaccination before flying out - something that I can't get for the immediate future.
If I cancel a deferred flight from last year because of this issue will I get penalised because I haven't been vaccinated?  Or should I wait until the guidance actually states rather hearsay atm?
Thanks in advance

Nothing had been decided yet on what the requirements will be to travel, or even when travel will restart. As well as UK Government restrictions there will also be restrictions from the Spanish/Canaries governments. Not too much you can do other than sit and wait.

What are your current options are with the airline? It's unlikely you'll be able to just cancel for a refund. Some airlines are offering free date changes or maybe vouchers. Obviously if the flight gets cancelled by the airline then you'd be entitled to a refund, but again to early to say if that will happen.

There's no confirmation that international travel restrictions will be eased yet. All you can is wait like everybody else. Let events unfold naturally. Second guessing is a pointless exercise.

You flight is not 1 day after the easing, it's 1 day after ther earliest the restrictions could be eased. As others have said, wait and see.

Need to wait and see what happens, you might find that Lanzarote or Spain decide to not let UK citizens or only let those who have had the first jab/have a vaccine passport.

At the moment the EU borders are largely closed (with a few exceptions) to UK nationals as a step to protect EU citizens.

If you cancel your reservation, any rights you hold will be subject to your contract with your chosen airline. If the airline cancels, any rights you hold will be detailed in law.

We are now in the first week of the summer schedule, so it may be worth looking to see if the route has re-started, as this will give you a likely idea of any cancellations on the airlines end (Flightradar24 is a good tool to check, you'll need to search for the flight number). If the route has not re-started, you should plan ahead that the flight will go if it's still on sale for now.

Seems as if we now need to be closing our borders to other nationalities to protect ourselves.   ;)

The UK border is effectively closed at the moment, without actually being so.

The matter is complicated in the EU by the fact that a limited number of countries are open for UK citizens, however Spain is not one of these. Of course, non-essential international travel now is prohibited for UK residents.

Crazy when French and German tourists have been allowed to party freely in Madrid, Mallorca and the Canary Islands. At a time when Spaniards themselves are in local lockdowns. The EU's internal travel restrictions are at best haphazard. Goes without saying that this will result in a further in surge infection rates.

The Spanish have now changed the rules so that even those driving into Spain from Frnace now need a negative covid test.
