External wall insulation..Waterproofing edges?

I've just had EWI done on my terraced house. The guys have done a good job but also a little rough around the edges. They work really quickly!
My concern is where the insulation stops at the edges and joins on to the next house. On one side it hits some bare bricks, on the other it's just a 90 degree angle. They have rendered up to the other houses, but it's not completely sealed and leaves some little cracks/gaps where I imagine water could get in. Especially when my neighbours hous render is falling apart.
Will this be a problem? The I insulation doesn't retain water much and dries very quickly. But just a bit paranoid about water getting in anywhere and causing issues
Also the verge trim at the top under the gutter...they said they just silicon all the joints. They also said they could silicon down the edges that I mentioned above where my new render hits the next house.
But surely even External silicon doesn't last that long out in the weather? Then what happens in a year or two, I'll have to get people in to re do the silicon? I guess I could do it on a three tier ladder, but would be awkward
I'm just wondering what is standard practice

Was your brickwork set back from the neighbours?
That verge trim looks bad, they could have got the insulation further up the wall.
Is there a base track along the bottom?1 -

That bit of verge trim you see is actually just an extra high ridge at the edge of my roof, so most of the verge trim does go higher. What is a base track?I forgot to post this photo too, which is the verge trim details around the gutter, which they plan to silicon, but somehow it doesnt fill me with confidence just silicones around all these joins :0 -
uh oh!
If the guttering really couldn't have been moved, you can get an insulated one-piece gutter box.
What have they done about any soil/toilet pipe?
There should be a stop bead on the rendered wall at least. They look like this;
A base track is similar but along the bottom of the insulation.
That rendering is awful, you shouldn't be able to see the mesh.1 -
edgex said: That rendering is awful, you shouldn't be able to see the mesh.Agreed. It looks like they slapped a thin coat of render on and pressed the mesh in to it. There should be a a second coat of render applied at some 5mm thick to cover the mesh. As it currently stands, the job is only half finished. The detailing along the edges is also pretty poor. Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.1 -
I'm sorry but this looks very untidy. We have external insulation and its all finished neatly with the correct edging beads. It's covered by a 25 year guarantee. Perhaps you should get the company you employed to come out and inspect the work. I wouldn't be happy with that finish.1

Sorry everyone, I should have said...this is not the final coat. They are coming on Monday to do the final render coat which had the colour in it. So you won't see any mesh. One of you said you should be able to see the mesh, I'm guessing you meant you shouldn't be able to! So I don't think that will be an issue after Monday
But yes, the edging bead, it seems as if they haven't used that, it looks just like they have rendered on the edge of the insulation on one side. The other side meets the neighbours bare bricks work so maybe it doesn't make sense to put an edging bead there.
I don't know if this photo sheds any more light on it. The newer build is the green house on the left0 -
So I've had another look today...it seems there is a base track made of metal at the bottom. But as you can see in this photo below, where it joins to my neighbours house that was flush with mine before, I don't see an edging bead, it seems to just be the insulation, some mesh and then render.
What purpose does the edge bead serve? Just to protect and keep it all tidy? Or to also somehow stop water ingress?
The neighbours render is a mess as it looks quite bad down that side, and I really don't think silicon like they mentioned is the answer
Any advice? They will back tomorrow for their last day and I need to get it sorted0 -
Has anyone got any more thoughts on this considering they will be doing the final coat of render
They just arrived but I have to sign the paperwork later to say the work was all ok. But I just want to make sure it is! And I'm not sure what standard procedure is0 -
Ask them why they haven't put a stop bead on the sides. Ask them if you're paying for one. Ask them about a guarantee.

I will ask about the guarantee too although it's a bit late now the work is nearly done0
