Will or no Will?

Hello,
My parent in their 80's is a widower and lives alone in a Council flat.
They haven't got a Will and i wondered what would happen with their savings and pension from their deceased wife?
There is no LPA but they have capacity.
What do you think is best?
Thank you

You say your father is a widower, so mother is deceased?
Then you go on to say 'they'
Clarify pleasemake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I am assuming that the OP is referring to his father and that Dad is living alone in the Council flat (as there is no mention of a second marriage).
OP, your father may wish to grant you LPOA (both kinds) so that you can deal with his affairs if the need arises, if he becomes ill for example or simply prefers to have you manage his bank accounts.
An LPOA ends on death.
If your father is receiving a pension from your mother's former employer, this will end with his death.
He should make a will to cover such things as where he would like his savings/possessions to go after he dies.
If there is no will (he dies intestate) see the rules of intestacy here.

Apart from a will your father should definitely put LPAs in place.2
