Personal domain: buying and setting up

I want to buy a personal domain.
I have several email accounts with Yahoo, gmail etc. Some of these have been pwned and I want to shed them.
So I'm thinking - get personal domain, and link email accounts I want to retain [that haven't been pwned] to this one personal domain email address.

Advice welcomed on:
- the pros and cons and hassles of this plan from your experience; and
- buying a domain - is there one comparison site where I can compare Nominet/GoDaddy etc? [I haven't found one].
thanks :)

The cost of the domain isn't that much.   You may even get a promotion of 99p for the first year, or similar.   I'd go with a company with a reasonable reputation like 123-reg.

If you only want a single email address, you can get free hosting that provides that.   (Freehosting.com).   Or your domain company may offer a basic email service with domains.

If not, I'd suggest buying the domain and the hosting from two different companies, getting the best price on both.

    Myw.pt
    2fa?
  • Or Fastmail and add 2fa security that should be sufficient
If looking for cheaper option look at purelymail.com
    Or mail.uk

Having your own domain compromised will be far worse than having a single yahoo or gmail account hacked.

Hack one account and they could have access to all your emails.

Currently with Ionos after moving from 123-Reg after they put their prices up too much. Only use a domain registration and IMAP email so can't comment on other services but the transfer from 123-Reg was smooth.
You need to consider what services you actually need and don't to pay for those you don't. Also be careful about special offers for the first year which shoot up for the second year.
  • Email accounts pwned in what way? Gmail seems pretty good with spam and security.

Pwned as in the email has been used in data breaches/leaks on other services that OP has used. https://haveibeenpwned.com/
