We've accepted an offer on the 31st January for a first time buyer to purchase our freehold house. There is no chain as we're relocating and will rent initially. The buyer's solicitor confirmed on the 8th March (almost 3 weeks ago) that they've received all the searches back, surveys done and all enquiries have now been answered. They're just waiting for the buyer's mortgage offer in writing. After 2 weeks of chasing back and forth, the buyer's solicitor has confirmed she's received not just the mortgage offer paperwork but also the signed deed with witness etc from the buyer on 22nd March. Both the estate agent and the buyer are apparently getting frustrated as the buyer's solicitor wouldn't discuss exchange dates and just kept saying she will do a final review despite having everything for 5 days now. How long does it normally take for a solicitor to do a final review? Is there anything else I can say to the estate agent as the buyer's solicitor has been dismissive when chased by my solicitor and kept saying she will contact my solicitor "whe she's ready". Thanks

There will be a lot of information and preparation to be done for the final review and only the buyer's solicitor can decide when they are ready to proceed. Nothing you can do to chase this, but the buyer could contact their solicitor to ask. If the signed papers were only returned on 22nd March, that's only 4 working days ago. The papers could have sat with all the other post coming in that day and won't reach the solicitor until someone opens the post and distributes everything to the right team. Of course, today they most likely will be dealing with completions. If you only accepted an offer on 31st January, you are doing pretty well to have reached this stage by now. Chill and be patient.0
