Car Insurance whilst working from home
It's coming round to my car insurance renewal time.
My cover normally has my car in a public car park during the day and on my drive of an evening. I have social, domestic, pleasure and commuting selected.
I have been working from home since March 2020 and am predicted by my employer to continue to work from home until at least September 2021 depending on how COVID goes.
Have not been using the car for anything other than shopping and travelling to see family (when we could).
I am just wondering where to say my car is during the day for my car insurance renewal.
I don't want to be dishonest with the insurance, but if my car is going to be on my drive during the day whilst I am working from home would I put that when searching for a quote for insurance or would I leave it as kept in a public car park on the off chance that I return to the office in six months time?
Grateful for opinions on this.
As I say I don't want to do the wrong thing but if putting that the car is kept on the drive will result in much cheaper insurance I don't want to miss out.
I was wondering if I did that then tell the insurer when if I return to the office later in the year?
Apologies if this has already been asked and answered but I couldn't find anything when I searched.
Thanks in advance.

You need to tell them what is happening today, not what might happen in x months time.1

Do you get asked where your car is during the day - I can only remember questions about where it is kept at night. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Fair enough. Not sure how I'd answer that as mine gets parked on public streets all over two counties depending on where I'm working each day.
How much do you save by saying it's on the drive vs the work car park, and would there be an admin fee to change it later in the year if you needed to?

Good point over the possible admin fee to change details! I'm getting quotes with both parked on drive and public car parks and see if there is much difference. Thankselsien said:Fair enough. When I was insuring a car that was due to split some of time between my home address and a student address which was a more expensive postcode for premiums, I rang them and was told specifically that I should put down where it would spend the 'majority' of its time during the year. I worked it out that >50% of the time, the car would be at the home address which worked out well for me as far as the cost of the insurance was concerned.
Not sure if that is the same for all insurance companies but that was my experience in late 2019.
If your potential new insurance co takes the same approach then from April to end September, early October could easily be >50% majority of the insurance year. I wonder if a web chat option is available for the company that shows you the cheapest quote.
Hope this helps0 -

It's worth checking with the particular insurer that you intend to take a policy out with. Comparison sites tend to ask every possible question that any one of the insurers on their panel might ask. However, not all of the insurers necessarily use every piece of info provided to them by the comparison site quote, so you may find that the particular one you choose to go with doesn't actually care where the vehicle is parked during the day. The only way to establish this is to ask the specific insurer.socnsum1 said:

Most will presumably want to know about how it'd be used normally, with covid being exceptional circumstances. But you're only got to the get correct answer by asking your insurers.
