Hoovers - What's best buy/most efficient pls?

Hi I want to replace my hoover and want to know all about yours!
I have a Dyson DC01 and its been ok, but now that I am thinking about changing it I'm not sure I want another Dyson, for a number of reasons really. The replacement filters are very expensive and when I have bought cheaper versions of the filters they have never been as good. Also the hoover is an upright, and the flexible hose that you can release to do awkward corners etc has never been any good. Finally, it cost about £160 (about 7 years ago) and that with the price of filters, approx £15.00 per year, I don't think it has been good value for money; also a service by Dyson is about £50 (and a service may well fix it, but I don't want to take the chance) I know I could get it serviced/fixed by someone else but is it good money after bad.
So is it time to bin it or fix it? Advice/feedback pls

Don't go there it's not up to heavy everyday use >:(Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0 -
Used to have a dyson but wasn't too impressed by the build quality - bits kept breaking off.
Have recently replaced it with a Miele, which did quite well in the Which? guides/ best buy tables.
So far am very pleased with it, easy to use, but I havn't costed up how much per year it will cost to run as you have to buy dustbags for it. It copes well with our pet hairs anyway!0 -
These were all given good marks by 'Which' Magazine.
The first two are cylinder and the others are uprights
Bosch BSG 82000GB Ergomaxx
Bosch BSG 71810GB Formula
Dyson DC07 Animal
Bosch BUC11700GB Extraxx 17
I've got a Miele S571, which was a fairly recent 'best buy' and I am very satisfied with itI'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
I'm not losing my hair... I'm getting more head!!0 -
I got a Bosch Extraxx 17 bagless upright, with HEPA filter, for £99 from Allders in Portsmouth about 2 months ago. So far I've been very happy with it, it picks up loads more than my previous bagged vacuum, the extension tube works well, it's easy to empty, and looks quite cool too!! The only downside is that, like most bagless uprights, it's quite heavy to carry up and down stairs.
Hope this helps....

I recently got a universal cloth bag from Kleeneze - you just unzip it to empty it, and I assume wash it occasionally?
It may be worth looking at for some people - I think it was less than a tenner. The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0 -
I had one of the original Dysons and I hated it! It didn't suck properly, and was really heavy to lug upstairs. Now I've got a Henry, he's wonderful!! He's light, has a really long lead which winds back up inside and a suck that lifs the carpets off the floor! Wouldn't recommend anything else!
I Believe in saving money!!!:T

Reading with interest as I have persuaded my local store to swap my brand new replacement electrolux for another make/model when it arrives. Prefer a cylinder but need a brush roll cos of our 3 cats. Are the new cylinders with turbo brush any good?Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0

I have just ordered a Dyson dco8 from the Argos sale at £65.00, any info on them appreciated?? At that price it must be worth suffering some little hassles?????I save so I can spend.0

It's got to be a Henry everytime.
I've used one to clean up after I knocked down walls and knocked plaster off walls, knock out fireplaces etc. and its still going strong. With such a nice smiley face you don't mind cleaning up.
It's nice and small for storing and light for pulling around.
Does anyone know where there are any cheap? They are usually around £80- £100.When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt
