Adjoining garden fence gate blocked

My rear garden fence adjoins an orchard which is land connected with three empty cottages owned by one individual. Several years ago, I paid for a new fence within which I had attached a gate for access onto the orchard should the kids kick their footballs in there. As they're past that age, this isn't so much of an issue.…

I'm pleased that you can now see it from the landowner's viewpoint. To them, all you were doing was making easier to trespass on their land. They may also have been concerned that a claim could be made at a later date of uninterrupted access over x years providing you with the right to access that land.
