Courier lost my parcel

Hello
About a fortnight before Christmas, I arranged, through parcelcompare.com, to send a parcel to my son in Sweden. The courier, TNT, have lost it. At the time, I added the cost of insuring the goods to the value of £150 to the delivery charge (~£75). By the time I had actually filled the parcel, it came to ~£250 so the total cost is ~£325.
I have been offered compensation of £150 plus £75. Should I take it and accept my losses or should I fight for the total amount? I am so annoyed with them but that’s a long story.
Regards
Marion

Yes, you should take the £150+£75, they have paid you for the amount you insured the shipment for and refunded the shipping fee, as with most insurance, they will not pay out for more than you have insured the goods for.

Are they not offering you the total amount you insured for?

The way I read it is that they are offering the total amount insured, the problem is that they put goods in the parcel to a higher value than they insured it for.
  • Thank you everyone who responded. My thinking had been that insurance is not compensation. Presumably, if I hadn’t taken out insurance, they would still have had to compensate me for the loss of the parcel? Maybe not.

Many have made that argument  but I have not read of anybody succeeding with such a claim.

No, because while in theory there's a duty of care there does have to be a limit - you can't send a priceless Faberge egg with Hermes and expect a million quid in compensation if it goes walkies.
Did you under-insure the parcel, or was it insured correctly?
