I visited Compare The Market for quotes for Landlord insurance. I did not proceed with any quotes. I received a phone call 30 minutes later from "the underwriter" asking if I would like to go through the application on the phone with him, could be easier he said. I didn't but he is calling back next week.
Is this usual to receive an unsolicited call from a company I had never heard of? I didn't fancy giving all my details to this "stranger".
What do you think ?

You must have provided your phone number for them to be able to call you.

There's a tick box on the site you haven't unticked which says you would like the top 2 or 3 quoting companies to contact you to discuss your quote..0

Yes, I've had this before. Within minutes of submitting a quote I had multiple companies pushing me for the sale. There is a sneaky tick box on the form that you have to make sure is de-selected otherwise you get this happen. My own fault for missing it but should be made a lot clearer to customers.0

The easiest thing to do is put a fake phone number in, if I am on the site for the provider themselves i.e. those not on comparison sites, I sometimes put the firms own number on0

Dear all, Apologies to start a new thread. I am not sure whether this was discussed before.I am in the process of buying a property to let as the first time landlord. I carried out a mine entry interpretive search for the property which shows two untreated mine shaft entries at 8m and 12 m from the house, both were in the back gardens of second and third properties from my house. The last mine activity was about 150 years ago. My house is a newly built in 2007 though all adjoining houses are semis or terraces built around 1930s.I wanted to obtain landlord insurance. I tried go compare, confused and money super market comparison websites to find a landlord insurance. I had to tack the box to indicate there is a tunnel or mine under the property. Unfortunately none of the sites gave any quotes which I think due to such.Does this mean the property is un-insurable? The previous owner used the property for HMO and had no problem of getting the insurance. May be he did not disclose , however I am aware he has never done a mine interpretive search. Can any one advise me how to get a landlord insurance for the property?Thanking in anticipation.Jay.0

I have seen it mentioned here and on comparison sites that Landlord Insurance is not compulsory. My current Landlord Insurance is due to rise by 20%.
However, having tried to go through comparison websites to obtain Buildings Insurance only, I found I can't proceed as the online form assumes I'm living there and I can't proceed. I am happy to insure the building only and feel I don't require Landlord Insurance as I know the tenant personally and feel secure in my decision.
Will I have to phone individual companies and explain my requirements or does anyone know a site where I can compare quotes?0 -
Landlord insurance is essentially buildings insurance with a couple of bits added on.
It's not really about knowing the tenant personally, basic landlord insurance will probably include accommodation for the tenant if the house burns to the ground, compensate them if they're injured, or help if they accidentally break a fixture or fitting.
You can add all sorts of extras such as rent protection and boiler breakdown but that's up to you.
The landlord insurance will be a bit more expensive than standard buildings insurance but that reflects your legal liabilities and the fact the people living there don't own it. I pay about £120 for the year so not excessive in the scheme of things.0
