Has planning consent expired

8 years ago we obtained planning consent to erect a side and front extension on our bungalow. Both extensions were part of the same application. Just after getting consent my husband lost his job and we could also only afford to build the side extension. Eight years later we now want to do the front extension. Is the planning consent still valid as it’s beyond the 5 year limit? Do we have to have broken ground on both extensions or is it sufficient that one has been built? We’ve had problems with the planning department in the past and want to establish our rights before we go to them

If it was all on one application and you had implemented any of the works as described on the approval within three years, you still have a valid Planning approval.0

Yep, agreed. The works in the application have been substantially started and the permission is still valid.0

As above, if it was all on one application, then beginning works on any part of it means the permission is valid indefinitely.
You will still need to obtain Building Regulations separately, though.0
