But these aren't just billing address changes, by changing from PayPal to a straight CC payment you've changed the payment system too, presumably setting up a bunch of new CPA's and perhaps an authorisation hold for each subscription to verify the card to boot. That will be what has set the bank's fraud system off. If you'd have just changed the address on file you'd probably have been fine.0

Maybe you can, maybe doing 3 in relatively quick succession is what was unusual. Although perhaps signing up for a bunch of new subscriptions right after an address change is what did it.rainbow_fountains said:
Ah maybe that’s it, mind you it was only 3 sites. Apparently you can’t sign up to 3 subscriptions on the same day without it flagging up as fraud!2021BJ said:But these aren't just billing address changes, by changing from PayPal to a straight CC payment you've changed the payment system too, presumably setting up a bunch of new CPA's and perhaps an authorisation hold for each subscription to verify the card to boot. I'm sure though if someone got hold of your card details, changed your billing address with the provider and then went on a shopping spree and the bank did nothing you wouldn't be all that happy either so perhaps you should really be thankful that they did do something.1 -
If you've just told them you have a new address and then sign up for services often used by fraudsters, then it looks to them like fraud. If someone has managed to pull off identity theft then the text/app system can't be trusted either as someone could have obtained a replacement sim.rainbow_fountains said:Surely updating lots of billing addresses after you’ve moved has to be standard, I’m not sure why it triggered not only a fraud flag but an elevated security block that meant a human had to help me instead of the automated system?

You updated your billing address AND payment details. If all you did was change your billing address I doubt you'd have had your card blocked.rainbow_fountains said:
I haven’t signed up for any new services though, I’ve just updated my billing address on services I’ve been using for yearsphillw said:

They look like they are new services, because you swapped from paying via PayPal (using your CC) to paying directly with your CC. These transactions will look completely different to fraud detection systems.

This is what the OP posted:
I recently moved house and I’ve been updating my details in various places, electrol roll, bank, work etc. Recently I had a few pending transactions appear on my credit card for subscriptions (stuff like Netflix) and thought darn I haven’t updated my billing address on those sites.
I quickly updated those, and while I was there I also changed my payment method to CC (previously I had most of these going through my CC via PayPal but now updated it to go direct through CC instead). Then later I got a text from the bank saying suspicious transactions had been blocked, please confirm they were genuine, which I did.But later I noticed my credit card had been deleted from my online banking app completely! I called the fraud team and they said a block had been put on my account, and the “suspicious transactions” were in fact the same subscriptions that I’ve been paying monthly/annually for years. I explained that I had recently moved house and am updating my billing address across the web, they said that’s fine. But my credit card still hasn’t reappeared on my online account?
I will call them back but I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this? Surely updating lots of billing addresses after you’ve moved has to be standard, I’m not sure why it triggered not only a fraud flag but an elevated security block that meant a human had to help me instead of the automated system?
