Finding a good architectural designer for small project

We are intending to either extend or alter the internal space in our small bungalow. We would love to find a good architectural designer who would be interested in helping us get the best use for the space we have on a modest budget. I have been looking at online companies eg Resi as we don't have any recommendations for a local architect. How can we ensure we can find one who will be able to do what we need. We have extended once before but now the space is just not working for us as it should. This time we have got to get the design right as we cannot afford to alter again. Thanks

Depending on who/what you need, check the governing body websites...
