Old Apple Mac has someone else's account still set up

I bought an early Intel Mac mini which still has a previous owner's accounts set up, to which I don't have access.
Can anyone advise whether it is possible to gain access the machine and install a fresh install of the appropriate OS X please?

For warning - if it has "find my mac" turned on, it will be locked to that users account and may ask for their apple id login before allowing access. In which case you'd need to talk to the store /person you got it from.Peter

Ah okay, good to know, thanks. This is an old ~2005 machine so I don't know whether that option was in OSX back then. Will give it a try tomorrow.0
