Double Glazing Installers

Hi. Looking for some advice please. I had my windows installed about 5 years ago. The company was very competent and had no problems with them at all, apart from the fact they didnt provide me with the CERTASS certificate. Since then a lot of the windows have blown and the glass needing replacement. The company that provided my installer with the units has gone bust and I have had to pay for the replacement glass. The installer has not charged for their time, which is a bonus. Is this right? Surely the installer should of had their own insurance to cover such eventualities?

Welcome to the forum.
CERTASS is irrelevant, it's not a guarantee scheme. Did you get any guarantee from the installer? If you did I'd be surprised if it was longer than 5 years.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.1 -
The engineer probaby added his labour onto the cost of the sealed unit.

This will be entirely dependant on the guarantee you had from the initial installer. Your contract and guarantee is with them. Very often sealed unit guarantees are limited, but not always. Check Ts & Cs on your contract.0

We had a 10 year guarantee with our new glazing. When you read the details very little is actually guaranteed for 10 years and the sealed units are only covered for 5.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

Hi OP
We got a Fensa certificate
We also took out the optional puka insurance, EG insurance backed. Therefore if the installer went belly up, we'd be covered for up to the ten years
I noted and they told me the handles were covered for 5 years only (I think I asked the rep as I read about it somewhere re handles)
The glass and units were ten yrs from memory.
