British Gas Final Bill

Hi all,
long story short we have a prepayment electricity meter (no gas), and we recently changed supplier from British Gas to EDF energy. We have today received a letter saying “we’re sorry you’re leaving us, please pay £97.37 by 29 March 2021”
I don’t understand how we can possibly owe them money when we have a pay as you go meter. By the time I got home their phone lines were closed but I contacted them through their live chat on their website, and they couldn’t tell me anything, but they said it’s to do with standing charges accumulating from irregular top ups. I don’t understand this because we do and always have topped up regularly, usually by £30-40 a time, sometimes less if money is tight coming up to payday.
they couldn’t tell me anymore and have said I need to call the debt team tomorrow between 9 and 5..
does anyone have any ideas or advice on this? I told them on the live chat I’m not paying it, but I just want to know if anyone has any info or advice on where I stand.
tia.
